ANSI/ASSE A10.13-2011 Safety Requirements for Steel Erection “…standard establishes safety requirements for erecting, handling, fitting, fastening, reinforcing and dismantling of structural steel, plate steel, steel joist and metal deck at a final in-place field site during construction, maintenance and dismantling operations…”, as a part of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) family of Construction & Demolition Standards (A10).

Further, ANSI/ASSE A10.13-2011 Safety Requirements for Steel Erection warns of safety risks when erecting, handling, fitting, fastening, reinforcing and dismantling steel. Fall protection is the greatest safety challenge, as precipitation events, such as rain, snow, sleet, hail, mixed, and frost events, can make walking and working on steel surfaces very slippery. Wind, wind gust, thunderstorm, and lightning events also pose safety risks for trade craft when erecting structural steel, plate steel, steel joist and metal deck.
