Safeguard crews working at heights, hoisting and rigging operations, construction materials in staging

CAMBRIDGE, MA — WeatherBuild®Decision Support Solutions for the Construction Industry and Built Environment®, is proud to announce the release of a series of best-in-class feature enhancements to its wind forecasts — wind events, wind gust events, and wind events at varying heights above ground level. Wind and gust events can endanger crews working at heights, jeopardize hoisting and rigging operations, and destabilize construction materials in staging, as three examples of risks to labor, equipment and materials.

Industry’s ability to mitigate hazards will be improved by embracing the latest technological innovations

As one of many examples across the construction industry and for crane operations, the New York City Crane Technical Working Group recommends that the “…industry’s ability to mitigate hazards will be improved by embracing the latest technological innovations…” — such as WeatherBuild. Further, the New York City Crane Technical Working Group advocates “pinpoint forecasting” as a critical planning tool, and not relying on free apps, generic services, and public sources such as National Weather Service forecasts issued a regional level.

New York City Department of Buildings — Engage a private service with pinpoint forecasting

Further, the New York City Crane Technical Working Group recommends “…that the Department (New York City Department of Buildings, NYC DOB) mandate that contractors at large job-sites, or where utilizing a crane with a long boom/jib combination, engage a private metrological service to provide pinpoint forecasting… as wind conditions can vary across the city… Technology is increasingly able to merge regional forecasts and block-by-block (hyper-local and site-specific) topology to provide jobsite specific forecasts.”
