The American Concrete Institute (ACIwww.concrete.org) and the ACI Committee 305 – Hot Weather Concreting provide numerous resources on the broad topic of hot weather concrete — concrete properties and the construction operations of mixing, transporting, and placing of the concrete materials in hot weather, including but not limited to 45 standards and documents, 88 journal articles, two ACI University online learning webinars, three online education presentations, etc.

The objective of hot weather concrete practice is to prevent damage to concrete due to one or a combination of the following four conditions, which impair the quality of freshly mixed or hardened concrete by accelerating the rate of moisture loss and rate of cement hydration:

  1. High ambient temperature;
  2. High concrete temperature;
  3. Low relative humidity, and;
  4. High wind speed.

Further, the ACI relies on the work of over 3,000 volunteers who serve on committees to develop the latest codes and reports related to concrete. The mission of ACI Committee 305 – Hot Weather Concreting is to develop and report information on hot weather concreting.
