Further, the WeatherBuild data dictionary of masonry activities is organized in the following five MasterFormat subgroups:
- Unit Masonry
- Stone Assemblies
- Refractory Masonry
- Corrosion-Resistant Masonry
- Manufactured Masonry
The WeatherBuild data dictionary of masonry activities serves general contractors (GC), construction managers (CMs), and specialty contractors or trade contractors performing masonry work, at risk of being impacted by numerous weather events, including precipitation, temperature, wind, humidity, frost, etc. Both hot weather and cold weather pose special problems for masons and masonry construction.
The Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) Specification for Masonry Structures (ACI 530.1/ASCE 6/TMS602) defines hot-weather masonry construction “…when the ambient temperature exceeds 100°F, or 90°F when the wind speed is greater than 8 mph.” Other weather events and hyper-local conditions such as low relative humidity (RH) and direct sunlight further compound hot-weather masonry construction.
The Brick Industry Association (www.gobrick.com) defines cold-weather masonry construction when the ambient temperature is less than 40°F, and accordingly describes three phases of mandatory requirements: first preparation requirements prior to masonry work, second construction requirements when masonry work is in progress, and third protection requirements after masonry is placed.
As the generally accepted, information standard used throughout the construction industry and built environment in North America, the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) MasterFormat lists titles and section numbers for organizing data about work results and construction practices, including Division 04 Masonry or 04 00 00 Masonry.
Further, the WeatherBuild data dictionary of standard construction activities for masonry work results complements schedule integration with project-specific schedule activities, enabling weather risk probability for each activity. For schedule integration, the WeatherBuild Solution is compatible with Oracle Primavera P6, MS Project and Excel, and many other formats.
