Lighting strike alerts and all clear notifications for leading contractors

CAMBRIDGE, MA — WeatherBuild®Decision Support Solutions for the Construction Industry and Built Environment®, is proud to announce the release of a series of powerful enhancements to lighting strike alerts and all clear notifications for leading contractors, owners and operators. Some of the many updates include enhanced lightning detection tolerances, improving both the uptime and the reliability by an estimated 5-10x. Other updates include improved load balancing and data logging to optimize for the volume, variety, velocity and veracity of lightning data.

Ignoring the threat of lightning creates a critical gap in life-safety programs

On average, the United States experiences about 20 million cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning flashes per year. The majority of fatalities from lightning occur in the Southeast — but lightning can strike in any state and on any site. Construction accounts for about 1/3 of work-related lightning fatalities. Accordingly, risk officers, safety directors, and construction stakeholders must take the threat of lightning seriously for all outdoor work crews. Ignoring the threat of lightning creates a critical gap in life-safety programs, emergency action plans (EAPs), and severe weather plans (SWPs).

Best-in-class lightning detection efficiency and location accuracy

WeatherBuild leverages advanced lightning technology to deliver best-in-class lightning detection efficiency and lightning location accuracy to leading contractors, owners and operators across the construction industry and built environment. By monitoring both cloud-to-cloud or in-cloud (IC) lightning and cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning with superior timing, range accuracy and advanced analytics, WeatherBuild delivers hyper-local, site-specific severe weather and lightning strike alerts. The results: improved early warning lead times for severe storms compared to weather radar and other technology.
