Analytics platform and dashboard tools for weather safety
CAMBRIDGE, MA — WeatherBuild®, Decision Support Solutions for the Construction Industry and Built Environment®, is proud to announce the release of lightning strike analytics in the WeatherBuild Web weather risk dashboard. WeatherBuild’s analytics platform and dashboard tools provide site-specific recommendations and analytics-driven insights for the leading contractors, owners and operators to improve situational awareness (SA) about adverse weather, dangerous thunderstorms and lightning strikes.
Lightning strike analytics for the WeatherBuild Web weather risk dashboard
First, lightning strike analytics feature real-time counts of total lightning strikes in each of the three ranges for a construction project, site operation or physical asset, such as a wind turbine or communications tower: 1. advisory range, 2. watch range, and 3. warning range. Second, lightning strike analytics log the start date / time and the finish date / time of thunderstorms for historical record, risk management and dispute resolution purposes. And third, lightning strike analytics include a link to view the full report of lightning strikes in a web browser.
Ignoring the threat of lightning creates a critical gap in life-safety programs
On average, the United States experiences about 20 million cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning flashes per year. The majority of fatalities from lightning occur in the Southeast — but lightning can strike in any state and on any site. Construction accounts for about 1/3 of work-related lightning fatalities. Accordingly, risk officers, safety directors, and construction stakeholders must take the threat of lightning seriously for all outdoor work crews. Ignoring the threat of lightning creates a critical gap in life-safety programs, emergency action plans (EAPs), and severe weather plans (SWPs).
Best-in-class lightning detection efficiency and location accuracy
WeatherBuild leverages advanced lightning technology to deliver best-in-class lightning detection efficiency and lightning location accuracy to leading contractors, owners and operators across the construction industry and built environment. By monitoring both cloud-to-cloud or in-cloud (IC) lightning and cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning with superior timing, range accuracy and advanced analytics, WeatherBuild delivers hyper-local, site-specific severe weather and lightning strike alerts. The results: improved early warning lead times for severe storms compared to weather radar and consumer apps.
