#StandDown4Safety

The 2020 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction is from September 14th to September 18th.

OSHA affirms that “fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 320 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2018 (BLS data).” Employers and employees can prevent fatalities caused by falls. WeatherBuild is proud to support National Safety Stand-Down, to raise fall hazard awareness across the U.S. in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

What is a Safety Stand-Down? A voluntary event for employers, such as general contractors, construction managers, and specialty contractors, to discuss safety with employees. Any project or site can hold a safety stand-down, by pausing during the workday to focus on fall hazards and reinforce fall prevention. During a safety stand-down, participants can also address the company’s safety policies and goals.

OSHA partners with numerous organizations to assist with the National Safety Stand-Down, including the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), OSHA approved State Plans, State consultation programs, the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), and many other organizations.

How to Conduct a Safety Stand-Down and FAQ’s. Hold toolbox talks, conduct safety inspections, develop rescue plans, or discuss job-specific hazards, for example. See Suggestions to Prepare for a Successful “Stand-Down” and Highlights from the Past Stand-Downs. OSHA also hosts an Events page with events that are free and open to the general public to help employers and employees find events in your area. #StandDown4Safety
