CAMBRIDGE, MA — WeatherBuild®, Decision Support Solutions for the Construction Industry and Built Environment®, is proud to announce the release of a series of enhancements to its lightning alerts for outdoor trade contractors, equipment operators, and service providers. Some of the many enhancements to WeatherBuild’s lightning alerts include muting alerts for lightning strikes outside of the scheduled work week, work day, and work shift. Lightning alerts are always available to general contractors, construction managers, and owner-operators in WeatherBuild Web and as automated notifications via email and SMS.
Ignoring the threat of lightning creates a critical gap in life-safety programs
On average, the United States experiences about 20 million cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning flashes per year. The majority of fatalities from lightning occur in the Southeast — but lightning can strike in any state and on any site. Construction accounts for about 1/3 of work-related lightning fatalities. Accordingly, risk officers, safety directors, and construction stakeholders must take the threat of lightning seriously for all outdoor work crews. Ignoring the threat of lightning creates a critical gap in life-safety programs, emergency action plans, and severe weather plans.
Best-in-class lightning detection efficiency and location accuracy
WeatherBuild leverages advanced lightning technology to deliver best-in-class lightning detection efficiency and lightning location accuracy to leading contractors and owners-operators across the construction industry and built environment. By monitoring both cloud-to-cloud or in-cloud (IC) lightning and cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning with superior timing, range accuracy, and advanced analytics, WeatherBuild delivers hyper-local, site-specific severe weather and lightning strike alerts. The results: improved early warning lead times for severe storms compared to weather radar and other technology.
Headquartered in Cambridge, MA between Harvard and MIT, WeatherBuild® offers a suite of decision support solutions that empower contractors, owners, and operators to improve situational awareness and make better-informed decisions about weather events, schedule impacts, safety risks, and probable outcomes.
