CAMBRIDGE, MA — WeatherBuild®, Decision Support Solutions for the Construction Industry and Built Environment®, is proud to release a data dictionary of standard schedule activities and work results for metals and metalwork, as a part of the WeatherBuild Notify Solution. Hyper-local weather risk reports with automated delivery to your project teams, the WeatherBuild Notify Solution includes: daily weather reports with risk assessments of construction activities; automated delivery via email and push notifications; hyper-local weather data based on the exact geo-location of your project; and, activities and impacts based on standard construction activities and weather events — now with metals and metalwork by MasterFormat, Facility Construction Subgroup, Division 5 – Metals.

Based on feedback from a broad spectrum of WeatherBuild’s leading contractor, owner and operator customers and end-users, the data dictionary of standard schedule activities and work results for metals and metalwork includes MasterFormat, Facility Construction Subgroup, Division 5 – Metals or 05 00 00 Metals: 05 10 00 Structural Metal Framing, 05 20 00 Metal Joists, 05 30 00 Metal Decking, 05 40 00 Cold-Formed Metal Framing, 05 50 00 Metal Fabrications, and 05 70 00 Decorative Metal, for example. A master list of numbers and titles classified by work results for the construction industry, MasterFormat (www.masterformat.com) is an industry standard publication of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and Construction Specifications Canada (CSC).

The productivity and safety of metal workers, steel workers, iron workers, and trade craft performing metalwork are at risk of being impacted by numerous weather events in all seasons. For example, during the cold season and winter months, low temperature events impact the quality and productivity of metalwork. Cold temperatures increase cooling rates and surface moisture formation during welding activities, which can increase susceptibility to weld cracking, both during and after welding activities. Further, low apparent temperature events with wind chill can put outdoor workers, such as metal workers, at risk of cold stress and frost bite; layered clothing and insulated gloves can measurably decrease productivity rates and the subsequent lack of dexterity can pose safety risks.

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) publishes Safety Requirements for Steel Erection A10.13, for companies and craftspeople to erect steel structures and metal deck in a safe and effective manner. A10.13 warns of safety risks when erecting steel structures and metal deck. A10.13 focuses on pre-planning and planning safe erection methods, in order to prevent near-misses, incidents, injuries, and fatalities. Fall protection is a safety challenge, as precipitation events, such as rain, snow, sleet, hail, and mixed precipitation events, and frost events make walking and working surfaces slippery. Further, wind and wind gust events, thunderstorm events, and lightning strikes pose life-safety risks when erecting steel structures and installing metal deck.

Further, WeatherBuild is proud to support IMPACT (www.impact-net.org), the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust, expanding job opportunities for ironworkers and contractors. “IMPACT is a partnership designed to provide a forum for ironworkers and contractors to address mutual concerns and encourage reasonable balanced solutions.” Headquartered in Washington, DC, the primary mission of IMPACT is to “…expand job opportunities through progressive and innovative cooperative programs.”
