On April 7th, the American Concrete Institute (ACI, www.concrete.org) hosted an online learning webinar “How To Handle Concrete Placements Exposed To Rain” lead by Ronald Kozikowski, Materials and Construction Engineer at North Starr Concrete Consulting, and by Scott Tarr, President at North S. Tarr Concrete Consulting. The concrete webinar is approved by the AIA and the ICC, with continuing education credits, 0.1 CEU or 1.0 PDH, for engineering and construction (E&C) professionals. The American Concrete Institute categorized the online learning webinar about concrete and wet weather under: concrete technology, construction practices, durability, and placing.
Preventative actions and the development of a wet weather plan
“If you have been in the concrete industry long enough, there is a good chance you’ve had a concrete placement exposed to rain. Scheduling demands often force contractors to work with rain events rather than cancel placements. If a rain event occurs during a placement, concrete can still be placed safely if the rain event is handled properly. This presentation will discuss how different stages of placing and finishing are affected by a rain event and what options are available to contractors at each stage. Preventative actions and the development of a wet weather plan will be discussed. Repair options will also be covered for those placements that have been affected by rain.”
Learning Objectives
- Understand the four main properties of rainstorms and what affect they can have on concrete placements.
- Timing of a rainstorm during a concrete placement will influence how the rain event should be handled. Learn what options available to contractors during the main stages of placing and finishing concrete.
- Understand what a “wet weather plan” is and what should be included in one.
- Learn what repair options are available if a concrete placement is affected by rain.
ACI webinars are delivered by industry experts and feature popular concrete topics. The webinars and attendance certificates are administered through ACI University. They are also recorded for viewing at a later date. Both live and recorded versions offer continuing education credit.
